Who Is God?
The Question Behind Every Other Question
More Than a Word
The word “God” is everywhere. People say it in moments of awe, anger, fear, and worship. It’s printed on money, debated in schools, whispered in desperation, and shouted in celebration. But for all the times we say God, do we really understand who He is?
This isn’t just a theological question—it’s a deeply personal one. Because the way you view God shapes how you view yourself, your purpose, your problems, and even your future. So let’s dig in. Not to give every answer, but to clear the fog a bit—and maybe open the door to a deeper discovery.
God Is the Creator
Before there was anything—light, time, planets, or people—there was God. He didn’t just rearrange things; He created everything from nothing. The vastness of the universe, the intricacy of DNA, the rhythm of the oceans—none of it was random. God imagined it, designed it, and brought it into being. Including you.
Knowing God as Creator means you’re not a cosmic accident. You’re handcrafted. Intentional. Designed for something greater.
God Is Personal
Unlike some vague spiritual force, God isn’t distant or indifferent. He has thoughts, emotions, and desires. He knows what it means to rejoice and what it feels like to grieve. God is not only aware of humanity—He’s intimately involved in it.
This personal nature is seen in how He speaks, guides, comforts, and even disciplines. He sees you and he hears your prayers. Also, he understands your heart, even when you can’t put it into words.
God Is Holy
Holiness means God is completely pure and set apart. He doesn’t sin, doesn’t lie, doesn’t change His mind on a whim. There’s no darkness in Him—only light. That can feel intimidating because we know we’re far from perfect. But holiness is also hope. Because it means God is trustworthy, consistent, and worthy of awe.
God Is Love
Yes, He’s holy. But He’s also love—pure, unconditional, and relentless. He doesn’t just love when we deserve it. He is love. And He proved it by sending Jesus to restore what sin had broken.
His love pursues us, forgives us, and transforms us. It’s not based on what you’ve done but on who He is. That’s good news for every single one of us.
God Is Just
God’s justice means wrong doesn’t go unnoticed or unaddressed. He doesn’t look the other way. That might sound harsh—but imagine a world where evil never gets dealt with. That wouldn’t be loving. True love confronts injustice. God does that—not in revenge, but in righteousness.
God Is Not a Genie
Many people reduce God to a cosmic wish-granter—someone to call on when things go wrong. But God isn’t here to serve our agenda. We are here to align our lives with His. He’s not our backup plan. He’s the main story.
God Has Revealed Himself
God is not hiding. He reveals Himself through creation, through Scripture, through people, and most clearly through Jesus. If you’ve ever wondered what God is like—how He speaks, loves, responds—look at the life of Jesus. He is God in human form.
So… Who Is God?
He’s the Creator, the Sustainer, the Savior, the Judge, and the Friend. Plus, he’s holy and loving, just and merciful. He’s powerful yet deeply personal. And He’s inviting you—not just to know about Him, but to know Him.
